How It Works

XWRAP® is an advanced amniotic membrane-derived allograft developed by Applied Biologics™. It supports and accelerates the body’s natural wound healing processes by acting as a biologically active scaffold. Below is a breakdown of how it works and why it's effective in treating complex and chronic wounds.

Biological Composition

XWRAP® is made from a single-layer, chorion-free human amniotic membrane. It is rich in:

Collagens (Types I, III, IV, V, VI) for structural supportGrowth factors like EGF, FGF, PDGF, and TGF-β to promote cell regenerationAnti-inflammatory cytokines and immune-modulating proteinsExtracellular matrix proteins to support cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation

How It Works

Scaffold for Cell ActivityXWRAP® provides a physical matrix that encourages keratinocyte and fibroblast migration. This helps close wounds more quickly by supporting new tissue formation.Modulates InflammationAnti-inflammatory proteins help reduce chronic inflammation, decrease pain, and protect surrounding healthy tissue.Reduces Risk of InfectionXWRAP® acts as a semi-permeable barrier and contains natural antimicrobial properties that help reduce the risk of bacterial contamination.

Why It’s More Effective Than Traditional Dressings

XWRAP® accelerates healing time and reduces the need for frequent dressing changes. Patients with chronic wounds often see progress within 1–2 weeks, compared to the weeks or months needed with standard treatments. Additionally, its structure supports tissue regeneration rather than simply covering the wound.

Clinical Data

XWRAP® is currently undergoing a randomized controlled trial for non-healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), with 124 patients enrolled and completion expected in August 2025. Over 500 patients have already been treated in pre-market or observational studies. As of October 2024, XWRAP® is listed on the Medicare Average Sales Price (ASP) schedule.
